Medical Education & Research Institute (MERI) is a non-profit organization which supports the advancement of medicine by providing bio-skills lab environments essential to medical and surgical training for healthcare professionals.
Our central U.S. location in Memphis, TN as well as our mobile support ability allow us to facilitate state-of-the-art, hands-on training and educational events for physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals from across the country and around the world. Our unique ability to coordinate all aspects of medical training is made possible in part by our exclusive partnership with the Genesis Legacy Whole Body Donation Foundation.
In order to better accommodate training in the evolving medical industry, we are currently expanding our Genesis team.
This position reports to the Genesis Manager and performs various duties to support essential functions of the Genesis Legacy Whole Body Donation program.
GENESIS SPECIALIST I
PURPOSE
To assist donors and donor families and/or their legal authorizing parties in regards to all aspects of donation in the Genesis Legacy Whole Body Donation program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Receive and handle departmental phone calls including periodic 'on-call' duties
- Perform various liaison services for potential donors and donor families (or other legally authorized parties) in regards to donation in the Genesis program
- Ensure various donor documentation is completed correctly and accurately by authorized personnel, and processed in database
- Perform donor risk assessment and arrange transportation of donors to proper location
- Ensure accurate processing, preparation, verification, and delivery of cremated remains to donor families
- Work with mortuaries and other third-parties to ensure proper documentation and process for receiving donors
- Provide supporting role for bereavement counsel, mediation, and problem solving as necessary regarding donations
- Adhere to all departmental and organizational SOPs in regards to donor confidentiality and applicable regulatory standards
- Adhere to and ensure compliance with AATB donor referral, donor consent and authorization, and proper acquisition of whole-body donations
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of relevant working experience in an office setting performing similar administrative job functions listed
- Some education, training, or professional experience in Funeral Sciences is preferred but not required
SKILLS AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to communicate effectively and compassionately in group setting or on the phone
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office software, Apple computer and device management, Outlook email, and other forms of common technology in a modern office environment
SCHEDULE
Normal schedule is Mon-Fri 8:30am to 5:00pm. Some scheduling outside of these times including on-call dates after experience is expected.
